Omega watch, how to evaluate this watch brand

Jul 5, 2022

Omega is a watch brand with a history of more than 170 years and a century of history. It can tell many stories to consumers. We can't say that we can fully judge the quality of this brand, but at least 100. With years of history, it must have a good reputation to develop for so many years. From this point of view, it has won many brands. If it is said that this brand is completely relying on flickering to do marketing and products, then it will obviously not exist for such a long time.

Omega's current mainstream movements are the Master Chronometer movements, such as automatic 8900, 8800, manual 9906, 3861, etc. The escapement of these movements uses coaxial escapement. You must know that basically 99% of the escapements used in mechanical watches are lever escapements. This escapement was first invented by the British watchmaker Thomas Mudge in the mid-18th century and has been around for more than 200 years. But Omega uses the coaxial escapement, which is an epoch-making breakthrough in the history of watchmaking.

What are the advantages of a coaxial escapement? Simply put, it maintains precision and stability and extends maintenance intervals. Therefore, in terms of escapement, Omega is more "advanced" than many mechanical watches. In 1999, Omega joined hands with independent watchmaker George Daniels to replace the coaxial escapement on the basis of ETA2892, and launched the first-generation coaxial escapement movement 2500. In 2007, Omega launched a fully self-produced coaxial escapement movement 8500, and in 2008 adopted a silicon hairspring.

In 2013, Omega first launched the anti-magnetic 15,000-gauss coaxial escapement movement 8508. Two years later, Omega joined hands with the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology to launch METAS certification. It can be said that the coaxial escapement has been upgraded many times before it has been upgraded to the master chronometer movement that is now the main force of Omega.

Omega's Master Chronometer watch has passed eight strict tests, and it has obtained the METAS certification of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. In addition to the coaxial escapement structure, it also uses anti-magnetic materials to make the movement, with a time difference of 0-5 Seconds, and anti-magnetic 15000 gauss, basically eliminate the possibility of the watch being magnetized in life. By the way, at present, Omega is the brand with the strongest anti-magnetic ability, no one. And when it comes to travel accuracy, it is also one of the best.
