Fortis watch winder settings

Jun 16, 2021

The Fortis watch company was established by Walter Vogt in 1912 in the city of Grenchen, Switzerland. The owner, a watchmaker brought John Harwood, inventor of the automatic type wristwatch on board later to combine their innovative skills in watchmaking. For more than a century the Swiss brand has been producing some of the finest quality watches in the world. The purchase of a Fortis is an investment as these watches tend to retain their value over time.

In 1926 Fortis produced the world’s first automatic wristwatches. In 1994, after endurance tests in space physics, the Star City Training Center chose the Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph as part of their Official Cosmonauts’ equipment.

Since then many Fortis watches have been used by astronauts in space. The Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph Automatic Alarm was the world’s first chronograph automatic with mechanical alarm.

Most Fortis watch self-winding movements can be wound properly by most watch winders. Usually Fortis’s self-winding movements need to rotate 650 - 800 revolutions per day, and most of them can be wound clockwise. So please take some time and like to choose a cute clockwork that suits you and your watch.

Definitions:

  • 《CW》 - Clockwise winding direction;
  • 《CCW》 - Counterclockwise winding direction;
  • 《Both》 - Combined mode (Clockwise + Counterclockwise);
  • 《–》 - Undefined;

If you could not find your watch model (or caliber) in this table, you may determine your Fortis. winding mode on a trial basis. You should select the combined winding mode (CW+CCW) and the minimal number of turns per day (TPD). Then place your watch into the watch winder box and check after a few days how accurate your watch shows the time. If it runs behind, it is necessary to increase the number of TPD by one step.
